What is a Dental Cleaning?
In the sequence of treatment, a dental cleaning should follow a comprehensive oral evaluation to provide a clean environment for any dental treatments that are needed. It would not be wise to place a dental filling or a crown on teeth full of plaque and tartars; therefore, a dental cleaning is best done right after a dental exam.
Dental cleaning is one the most important preventive treatments in dentistry. There are two different types of dental cleaning: Routine dental cleaning and Deep teeth cleaning.
When patients ask why their gum bleed when they brush or floss, the reason is that they do not floss regularly. When patients do not floss, their gum become inflamed from buildup of plaque, tartar and bacteria and this is known as gingivitis. A routine dental cleaning is recommended to remove plaque, tartar and bacteria from your teeth (above the gum) to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. A routine cleaning should be done every 6 months during the routine checkup to allow the dentist to detect any early signs of cavities and address the concerns as soon as possible to prevent the need for costly dental treatments.
During routine dental cleaning, the dentist uses a cavitron that vibrates at high frequency to break off any mineral, bacteria buildup and stains off the teeth above the gum. Afterwards, the teeth will be polished to further remove plaque and stains. Polishing makes teeth smoother, so plaque and bacteria are less likely to stick around. Cleaning should not cause any discomfort or pain. Patient may experience discomfort during a cleaning if the patient has “gingivitis” inflammation of the gum from lack of flossing. It is normal to experience some sensitivity to hot and cold after cleaning. If there is sensitivity, you can use SENSODYNE SENSITIVITY Toothpaste to decrease the sensitivity. Sensitivity to hot and cold usually go away in a few days. Avoid WHITENING TOOTHPASTE that can cause sensitivity.
A routine dental cleaning is recommended for patients that do not have gum disease. For patients with gum disease, a deep cleaning is recommended because this type of cleaning removes the buildup of plaque, tartar and bacteria below the gum on the surface of the roots.

Perfect smile Dental group was able to take me in the same day I called to make an appointment. Magadalena (front desk) was very sweet and professional. The dental assistant was amazing and gental with taking my xrays. The Dr was very thorough, went over all my xrays and explained every thing to me in detail. He even showed me videos just to make sure I understood the treatment plan. I have never experienced this type of treatment at any other office. I've done several procedures with them and while it may take time, you know you're in good hands. If you're looking for a dentist, then come here! Advice: book your appointments early. Or else you'll be waiting for awhile as the doctor will be speaking with other patients. It's not a deal breaker, but good advice. Everything else about the location is clean, professional, and pleasant.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.Liliana Hernandez2024-06-13I recently visited Perfect Smile Dental Group whom I found through Google, and I couldn't be happier with my choice. You can immediately tell that they genuinely care for their patients. Everyone is so nice here. ExcellentBased on 26 reviewsVerifiedMarisa C.2024-05-02Yes this is a long review but they deserve it!! I had a positive experience here and would recommend this dentist to anyone. (I actually already have!) Due to a variety of factors, I had not been to the dentist in at least 2-3 years. I was in desperate need of a cleaning. I researched online which local dentists took my Medi-Cal plan and had availability. I read reviews to check which dentists were known for a gentle and safe approach. I obviously found the right one - which turned out to be important because I had to come back more times to fill several cavities. This was extremely scary for me. But Dr. Yang, Sabrina and Magdalena made the whole process as comfortable, efficient, and painless as possible. They answered all my questions, continually checked in & paused as needed, and let me know in advance everything they were doing and why. I also have never been to a dentist that had so much useful technology. The space itself was modern and clean. I appreciated that they had mouthwash in the bathroom lol. I actually feel more confident now that my teeth are clean and healthy. I hope I can come back for my appt already scheduled for the fall. Anyone who has sensory issues or dental anxiety (or just wants healthier teeth//to have a more positive and educated experience at the dentist) could benefit from making an appt here.VerifiedHeang L.2024-03-25I found this dentist when I was searching for a Dentist in Whittier. Due to severe grinding, most of my teeth have problems. I hesitated going to the dentist for years until my dental bridge broke. When I came to see Dr. Yang, his office was clean, welcoming and professional. The staff was really friendly. Dr. Yang was very through during the exam. He took photos of my teeth and showed me on the X-rays where I had cavities and where I needed to have dental crowns to prevent my teeth from breaking. He also told me I needed a night guard to protect my teeth from breaking when I grind my teeth when I am sleeping. I was very impressed with his attention to details. He took his time in explaining and answering all my questions. I don't think I have had a dentist that cared enough to take the time to explain everything so I can understand what was going on in my mouth. I had the best cleaning. My teeth never felt so clean before! I have been coming here for my dental needs and have been very happy with their customer service that I decided to stay with this dentist for my dental implants. I highly recommend this office!Verifiedluis s.2024-03-05Recently went saturday 3/2/2024 to get a tooth extracted from the minute I called towards the end of getting tooth removed front desk & dentist showed professionalism. They saw me as soon as possible when I broke my filling and tooth and wasted no time in getting me prepped and ready for a crown. Dr. Yang is amazing. I feel very comfortable with him and his staff. He always makes sure I'm alright and not in pain before proceeding with the next step and explains everything thoroughly. I'm very happy I found him and his clinic. I couldn't ask for a better team. I definitely recommend him. 10/10 best dentist!VerifiedGilbert P.2023-10-14I cannot say enough good things about this office. Dr. Yen is a master of his craft, i have complete confidence in his ability. I hadn't had dental check in 15 plus years and he found all my problems. I will be returning to him to address them in the near future. The front desk cleric Magdalena (hope this is correct spelling) is very knowledgeable, she will guild you thru the process with ease. It never good news to be told you need dental work, but she makes it as easy as possible. I will update this after my dental work is done and fully recovered. Furthermore, they give you an easy-to-understand paperwork detailing everything just be sure to double check the back page. I know I'm forgetting something it will be in the next update.VerifiedBernard D.2023-08-24I developed a toothache right before my first vacation in 10 years.
